Partnering For Positive Results

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S REPORT

The last issue of our newsletter featured the possible cuts to Medicaid – those cuts are now a reality. In Phelps County, approximately 1,200 people will have their Medicaid benefits greatly reduced. The estimated state savings is approximately $4 million but will be substantially more when state savings is paired with the loss of federal dollars.

Lost health care coverage may also result in greater use of the emergency room for health care; reduced payments to health care providers and pharmacists; and loss of dollars for living expenses for local residents. This could prove to be a very difficult time for our community.

What can you do to help? Please consider donating your time or resources to local organizations such as the Community Care Clinic, local food pantries and food distribution sites, and other service organizations. Volunteers can use their talents as medical professionals, clerks, or as needed - allowing agencies more time to work with clients. To volunteer or to learn more about these agencies and organizations please contact them, visit our website, or give us a call.

One of the above-mentioned organizations is the Community Care Clinic. We are very fortunate to have this resource in Phelps County. The clinic is staffed by medical professionals and is available for individuals without health insurance who have limited income and those receiving Medicaid benefits. Payment is required for all services provided. If Medicaid cannot be billed, private pay fees are based on income and are due at the time of service. The clinic is housed in the Phelps County Health Department office located on the ground floor of the Phelps County Courthouse at 200 N. Main Street in Rolla. Appointments are necessary, and can be made by calling (573) 458-6050 between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Please be on the lookout for the announcement of our gorgeous new web site! We have been so fortunate to be “adopted” by Tek Development, an amazingly talented and generous company. Tek Development donated hours of their time and talent to develop a beautiful customized web site for us. One of the most outstanding features is our new Resource Directory that will allow local agencies and organizations to register and customize their own information. If you would like to register, please contact us and we will be happy to get you set up!

Please keep safe and enjoy the steaming Missouri summer! Amy
