School Jump Rope Rallies

The fall of 2008 will see schools in Phelps County getting active.  Mark Rothstein and his “World of Rope Jumping” will bring his contagious enthusiasm to the kids in rallies.  Each child will be given a jump rope and will log their times jumped with their PE teachers.  Fit Phelps will help track their progress.  Schools participating will receive a Dance, Dance Revolution fitness game system.

Nutrition in the Schools

Fit Phelps is partnering with the University of Missouri Extension to help Phelps County schools in their quest to incorporate more activity-based teaching and more fruits and vegetables in the students’ lives.  Extension nutrition associates Karen Clancy and Jessica Gargus will work with cafeteria staff on developing menus that integrate more fruits and vegetables as well as continue their work with students and parents on healthier cooking and awareness of healthy diet.  Administrators always welcome help on Wellness Policies reviews. Tamara Smith, an Aerobics and Fitness Association of America certified group fitness instructor, will work with coaches and teachers on activity-based learning.
